Rigging Policy and Info
We have been making yacht rigging since 1972 and architectural rigging since 1978 so we have had a little time to learn not to cut corners. We use a Wireteknik roll swager which was chosen because it produces straight terminals rather than banana shaped ones so typical of other types of machine. We also use a standard Talurit machine for forming eye splices on flexible 7 x 19 wire, and, where required, on 3 and 4mm standing rigging wire. We do not advise the use of Talurit terminations on larger diameters of standing rigging wire except where no other possibility exists. Choice of materials We use the best wire we can find, not the cheapest At the end of the day your life could depend on it, even in a daysailer. Similarly we could buy all our wire terminations from cheap sources and save perhaps as much as 80% but the end result would certainly not be safe or durable. We have experimented with Far Eastern terminals since they are frequently less than a quarter of the cost of European brands. We found that: We could not reliably tell what stainless they were made of. Some had a tendency for the material to crumble after swaging. The drilling tolerances in the shank were often unacceptably sloppy The thread tolerances on threaded terminals and rigging screws were leading to very low thread engagement and subsequent loss of strength. On test we found that the pins deflected at quite low loads and the welding in the fork ends failed at a figure some 30% lower than we expect from European manufacture. So we decided that although we could produce lower cost rigging using these terminals we cannot advise them for yacht rigging. Price Policy Our prices are real prices, we have not added 20% so that we can con you into buying by offering 15% discount as some do! Although we could make rigging from supplied dimensions we much prefer to make by copying your old rigging. This allows us to determine, for example, the make of T bar you use, the thread of stud terminals and rigging screws, the hand of stud terminals and it does save any confusion about where and how measurements are taken. Remember, we only need one of a kind of shrouds which are normally in pairs which saves a lot on carriage.
Prices include delivery where required. We expect to despatch sets of rigging within 3 working days of receiving dimensions - or, better still; your old wires to copy. single wires can normally be despatched within 48 hours or sometimes quicker if urgent.
